Coopers Rock Volunteer Trailwork Weekend
The Coopers Rock Foundation is once again hosting its Annual Coopers Rock Halloween Candy Trailwork Weekend. This is the annual ending of the trail maintenance season for the Coopers Rock Foundation, and all volunteers are supplied with Halloween candy. The hours for volunteers to work are 10-6 on Saturday the 7th, and 1-5 on Sunday the 8th. Volunteers may work as much or as little as they wish, and Latecomers are welcome.
This is a great opportunity for students to earn Community Service Hours before Thanksgiving Break.
The work consists of maintaining drainage features including water bars, dips, drainage ditches, and culverts to keep trails dry, and to keep trails clear volunteers will remove downed limbs and branches over the trails and trim vegetation growing into the trail corridors. CRF trailwork is geared toward all trail users + hiking, running, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Volunteers may also clean out grills and clean off stone steps in the Lower Picnic Loop area.
All tools and work gloves provided, but volunteers may bring their own if they'd like.
See http://www.coopersrockstateforest.com/ for Coopers Rock State Park location.
New this year, on Sunday only:
Get restored with donation-based CHAIRity massage and Seated Thai Yoga from BlissBlissBliss. BlissBlissBliss will be at Pavilion #3 from 1-4PM on Sunday Nov. 8th offering $1 per minute chair massage and seated Thai Yoga bodywork. 100% of proceeds go to the Coopers Rock Foundation.
More info: http://www.theblissblissbliss.com . After trailwork and a massage, cozy up to the fire that will be burning all afternoon, nibble on some Halloween candy, and enjoy the Autumn ambience.
Coopers Rock Foundation Trailwork Coordinator and organizer of this event, Adam Polinski, says "We've got a pretty nice combination going for this weekend -- community service for the trails community of Coopers Rock, along with candy, yoga, massages, and a roaring fire. If you like Coopers Rock, come on out and pitch in!"
Directions to Saturday's Meeting Place, for 11/7/09, 10-6 p.m. volunteer trailwork.
The meeting place for volunteers on Saturday, November 7th, is the entrance to the Front Gate Parking Lot, a.k.a. the Day Use Parking Lot, just ¼ mile in along the main road from the Coopers Rock 1-68 exit. Tools, gloves, and registration will be there. For Latecomers... look for a map of where we'll be attached to the kiosk near the restrooms in the parking lot. Grab a pair of work gloves from the glove container by the kiosk and come find us.
Directions to Sunday's Meeting Place, for 11/8/09, 1-5 p.m.volunteer trailwork.
The meeting place for volunteers on Sunday, November 8th, is Pavilion #3, in the Lower Picnic Loop. Drive along the main road, toward the Overlook, but after 2+ miles, and just before you enter a large, gravel parking lot, go right, and downhill. Pass a small, round stone building with a green roof above the road, and continue downhill until you reach a loop, where you must veer right. Continue down to the bottom of the loop, and as you start to go uphill again you will see Pavilion #3 on the right, about 100 yards from the road.
Pavilion #3 is NOT by the Coopers Rock Overlook. The Lower Picnic Loop is NOT the Side Picnic Loop, with its winding, twisty road and dozens of picnic sites. The Lower Picnic Loop is small and circular, and Pavilion #3 is clearly visible from it.
