About this Event ...

This is the fourth year for the plunge in the Capital City, and the Special Olympics of West Virginia (SOWV) hopes that you, your friends, family, and co-workers will join them for this fun and entertaining event. Costumes are encouraged!

The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support SOWV by jumping or slowly crawling into the frigid pool waters set up inside Appalachian Power Park on January 30th. Rest assured that the water will be nice and cold just for you!

If your family and friends are too chicken to take the plunge, have them show their support by making a pledge to a braver soul and invite them to watch all of the exciting action in person at the ball park (the jumbo scoreboard will be on to capture every single plunge!) So grab a towel and grab a friend and be included as one of the folks to plunge in Charleston.

To Register

In order to participate be sure to raise a minimum of $50 for the privilege to plunge.

Raising more is encouraged and prizes go to individuals and groups who raise the most. All proceeds collected by plungers benefit the Special Olympics of West Virginia (SOWV) athletes, the many games, and training events throughout the year in West Virginia.

Appalachian Power Park is the home of the WV Power, Charleston Minor League baseball team. The plunge will take place in a pool there and then enjoy the after plunge party at Power Alley Grill, also located at the park.

After Party Fun

Immediately following the plunge warm your soul with a party at the Power Alley Grill located at Appalachian Power Park. All plungers are welcomed and will not have a cover charge - you have earned the right to party! Guests are also welcome and there will be a $5 cover charge for them. Good food, soft drinks, and adult beverages will be available for those of legal age.

Win Prizes!

Prizes will be awarded during the party to the individual who raises the most money and the team of four raising the most money.
