North Bend State Park was host to the 20th Annual Ridge Runner Races
on Saturday, June 6th. The events included a USATFA certified 26.2
mile marathon and a 10 mile race. Ranked as one of the top ten
toughest marathons in the country by Runners World magazine, the event
attracted runners from all over the country. The marathon had 84
runners while the 10 mile race had 50 runners.
The weather on Saturday was cool and overcast, perfect for a long run
through the mountains. The marathon consisted of a figure 8 course
that winded through Harrisville and ended back at North Bend. Dave
Pruder, from East Lansing, Michigan and finishing third overall, said
that aside from a race in Wyoming, this was the hardest course he had
seen. "I'll be hurtin' for a week", commented Dave after the race.
The 10 Mile race consisted of approximately 50% gravel/dirt and 50%
paved roads. Larry Taylor won 1st place overall in the mens category
and Maureen Clark took 1st place in the womens category.
