Heart Fund
Steven Nutter striding toward the finish
In the peaceful town of St. Mary's, Tuesday evening was much like everywhere else in the state - hot! With unusually high humidity and temperatures, it wasn't gonna be a run for the faint-hearted, especially this early in the season. But 25 runners braved the heat to run for a great cause, the American Heart Association. Instead of going door to door trying to raise money, the Middle Island Ramblers 4H Club sponsors this race, and gives all proceeds to the AHA.

The course started on the St. Mary's High School track, went out and back along Middle Island-Fishpot Road, only to bring the racers back where they started, finishing the race with a lap on the high school track.

The first to cross the finish line was Rick Guimond(17:30) on this sticky day, but Steven Nutter(17:44) was right behind giving a steady chase. Mike Taylor(17:57) also came in under 18 minutes, rounding out the top three male finishers.

For the women, it was Julie M. Rathbone(20:02) taking the checkered flag, with Jolene Taylor(23:12) keeping a solid pace to finish second. Brett Phott(25:12) was the third place female overall. John Mike Nichols(29:51) and Jan Stevens(34:17) both race walked the course.

Thanks to Mike Taylor and Randy Nutter for putting on a great race in a beautiful part of the state. We know we will be there next year; you should be there too.
