It looked like it might rain with dark clouds above, but the skies cleared and it was smooth sailing, as racers registered for the 5K kick-off of the St. Vincent's Annual Summer Festival. Grandparents, parents, and kids of all ages gathered at St. Vincent's Grade School to see 84 people take their marks and get ready to run and walk the 5K course. The fast downhill finish gave young Ricky Moore an extra edge as he sprinted over the finish line with an unbelievable time of 15:57! Ed Tullius (17:27) was 2nd Overall and commented on Moore's running style as being fast from start to finish, "He's impossible to catch." Bryan McCann (17:44), was not far behind Tullius in the last mile stretch.

All ages in the 5K
All smiles at the start
Julie McGee (20:29) stayed ahead of her competition as she finished as the 1st Overall Female. All of the participants were welcome to enjoy two free beverages at the finish by showing their race number. When the sun set, the lights were turned on and the festival really got crazy as more and more people tried to win prizes at the booths. The band Swerve On kept the party hopping and the feet stomping. Thanks to Race Director Greg Kloeppner this event was a big success. That's no surprise, because Greg has helped organize 100 races in the last 10 years! We can't wait to see what St. Vincent's gives out for free at the end of the race in the year 2000!
