Thomas Memorial Hospital
Hitting the streets of St. Albans
Saturday, August 7, 1999 was a splendid morning for running and walking in the 18th Annual Thomas Memorial 5 Mile Run and 5K Walk. Sunny and vibrant blue skies along with a not so familiar cool breeze made the morning one to smile about for anyone outdoors, in this case, runners and walkers from all across West Virginia, as well as Ohio and Virginia.

The rolling course wound its way through the village of St. Albans. Starting at the fire station and then looping around through the "loop", racers then hustled from Kanawha Terrace to Spruce Street and Washington Street, finally completing the lap and finishing at the starting line, by the fire station.

Kelly McGraw heads to the finish line
Finishing in the lead for the Men's Division was Mike Guinn(27:13). Guinn will attend Alderson Broadus College this fall, and plans on running for the cross country team. Guinn kept a pace of 5:27 per mile to keep in front of second place finisher Larry Adkins(27:31), who also kept a blistering pace at 5:30 per mile. Glenn Baldwin(27:56) finished third overall.

In the Women's Division, Kelly McGraw(32:46) once again was the first to cross the finish line. McGraw finished more than 6 minutes ahead of second place, resulting from her 6:33 per mile pace. Karen Huffman(39:37) took second place honors, and Gennifer Curry(40:15) finished third.

Thanks go out to the St. Albans Police Department and the fire department for all of their help, as well as all of those sponsors and other generous people who made this race possible.
