Just outside of Martinsburg on Poor House Road, with North Mountain as a back drop, over 50 runners of all ages gathered for the Dawg Daze 15K and 5K. With light clouds lingering in the sky, and temperatures in the low 70's, conditions were favorable for running, and the country roads winding through peach and apple orchards kept the spirit light.

Both races started at 8:30 am. The 5K course stayed off the pavement and in the grass, but there were plenty of challenging hills in the 3.1 mile loop. The 15K course started in the grass, but quickly took to the roads with many rolling hills along the way, and ended with a long rolling downhill to the finish.

In the 5K, Mark Allen Vann(18:28) kept a 5:57 per mile pace to get the overall win, with Josh Campbell(18:51) coming in right behind for second. Chris Northrup(19:15) finished third overall. Vicky Krossman(25:26) was the first female to finish, and the 13th finisher overall. Becky Whitney(28:25) and Shannon Unger(29:41) finished second and third for the women, respectively.

In the 15K race, Ty Witte(1:00:25) kept a 6:30 per mile pace to finish first by more than 3 minutes. Vark Mann(1:03:58) came across the line second, with Rick Kerby(1:05:53) finishing third overall. Margaret Horioka(1:18:20) finished first for the females, and 12th overall, while Nancy Specht(1:20:37) and Tracy Herron(1:22:39) finished second and third in their class, and 15th and 16th overall, respectively.

Thanks and appreciation go out to Dick Aunkst and all the volunteers who helped make this event possible. This race was in support of Martinsburg Cross Country at Poor House Farm Park.
