The Race for Shelter is a 40 Mile course on the North Bend Rail Trail from Cairo, WV, to Salem, WV. The course includes seven railroad tunnels (up to 2297') and several railroad trestles. Two sections of single track over tunnels will be included in the Expert class.

8:30 am Registration Opensat Cairo,WV (Intersection Rt. 31 & Trail)
9:30 am Relay Races
9:45 am Individual Racers Start
2:00 pm Lunch
3:00 pm Awards in Salem, WV Apple Butter Festival during the day.
Prizes for Race
  • Adult Expert: Cash ONLY,
  • 100% payback ($20/rider)
  • 1st Place~ 50%, 2nd~ 30%, 3rd~ 20%
  • All other classes: Prizes awarded 3 places per class
  • Highest donors recognized with "EXTRA MILE" awards
Race Details
Individuals: in Four Person Relay/ ride 10 Mile section
Baton: Must be exchanged at relay point
Helmets: Are required for all participants

* All rights are reserved to delete or combine classes based on a minimum of five per class.

Donations due any time before the start. Sponsorship on individual riders/relay teams is welcomed and encouraged!
