WVU Cyclocross
Gunnar Shogren flying through White Park
Beautiful weather made for a great day of racing at WVU's Cyclocross Race #2 on Saturday. The new course was sure to challenge the racers with the majority of the 1 mile course staying in the woods at White Park. After numerous dismounts, hairpin turns, and short, steep, rolling hills, the loop ended with a steep run(with your bike) up to the finish line.

Morgantown resident Gunnar Shogren met the challenge and showed his cyclocross expertise along the way. Shogren led the 15 lap A-race from start to finish. Marc Glass and Ben Klimas challenged early in the race but by the 4th lap, Shogren started to to take off, andseemed to get stronger lap after lap as he ran away with the victory.

WVU Cyclocross
Collin Fridley and Kevin Leyh battling hard
In the 9 lap B-race, Kevin Leyh and Collin Fridley dueled back and forth through the first eight laps. However a mechanical by Leyh ruined what was sure to be a great sprint finish giving Fridley the win. The venerable Bob Vernon finished second followed by Chad "Wheelie" Chrefko in 3rd place.

The 6 lap C-race saw Jeffrey Nagy come away with the win. He was followed by 16 year old David Layman and "Dangerous" Dave Mckain rounding out the top three. Fourth place went to the top female finisher of the day, Jennifer Shogren.

The West Virginia cycling club would like to thank Jeff Berryman of Boparc for allowing the use of the park, Pathfinder of Morgantown for us of radios and one fine tent, and to iPlayOutside.com for covering the race. Hope to see everyone at race number 3 this Saturday November 13.
