Running hard in Huntington
Saturday brought warm temperatures and sunny weather for the First
Annual Food and Fitness 5K Run and Walk at Ritter Park in Huntington.
This first annual event coincides with National Nutrition Month which
is held every March to promote nutrition and a healthy lifestyle to
the public. What better way to stay in shape than to take a run or
walk through Ritter Park and down the streets of Huntington.
This out and back flat course made for a perfect run for the
experienced and beginner runners coming out to enjoy a warm spring
morning. Today's event is provided by the West Virginia, Ohio and
Kentucky (WOK) District Dietetic Association where they will donate
all proceeds to the Huntington Area Food Bank.

Enjoying the beautiful day after the race
Taking the lead in today's race was Will Colban(17:25) from
Virginia. Will is a student at Virginia Tech where he used to run for
the track program. Now Will states he runs for the fun and for
himself. He is currently taking a semester off to work for a Co-op
program with Ashland Oil. Capturing the second place overall was
Aaron Kaylor(18:22) and with Halsey Cory(18:36) right behind
him with a close third place finish.
Capturing the first place finish for females was a familiar face,
Kelly McGraw(19:49) of Charleston. Kelly said today's race
with the warmer weather was different than from last week's race with
the cold dreary weather. It made for a more enjoyable run. She
states that she enjoys running this area because of the nice people
and the flat course. Also in today's race sprinting in for a second
place finish was Laura Jarrell(23:15) and a third place finish
Caroline Haddox with a time of 24:41.
Congratulations to all of today's runners and walkers for coming out
to promote a healthy lifestyle.
