Run Start
All the fun begins with a run
Between the rain showers on this hot muggy day, Coonskin Park was full of youngsters running, biking and swimming their way to victory. Just one of the numerous events going on for the Parks' 50th year birthday party was the Children's Triathlon. Children between the ages of seven to fourteen competed in the multi-sport event to help promote competitive fun and physical fitness in children. They also were able to learn about bike safety and have their bikes inspected by Sgt. John Shannon and Ptl. Tracy Thompson of the Charleston Police Department Bike Unit. Starting off with a hot run to their respective bike stations these youngsters sprinted and pedaled to the park pool where the last leg of the event was a cool splash in the water. A wonderful welcome from the hot sticky day.

In the 7 to 8 year old boys Joshua Hudson took off from the start line like a streak of lightening to finish with a time of 8:30. Also in the 7 to 8 year old girls Tori Roadcap surged her way to a first place finish with a time of 8:34 and not too far behind for a second place finish was Emily Sherrard (9:02).

A fine day for a ride in the park
Securing the first place boys in the 9 to 10 year old group almost a minute ahead of second place finisher, Sterling Baxter (12:09), was Drew Zegeer with a time of 11:12. Also taking the third place finish was Patrick Hardy with a quick time of 12:24. Seizing a first place finish in the Girls 9-10 year olds was Abigail Kerns (11:04) with Lindsey Coyle not far behind for a second place finish with a time of 11:20 and Bree Ann Johnson (11:27) just a mere seven seconds behind for a third place finish.

Taking off with powerful strides was the 11 to 12 year olds. As they rounded the turn to take their plunge in the cool water it was a tight race for the guys. But Ryan Coyle prevailed with a first place finish and great time of 9:17. But not far behind were J.K. Fallin (9:32) and Ian Aubry (9:49) for the second and third place finish. Dashing her way to a first place finish was Natalie Northcutt with a time of 9:31 and for a second place finish with a time of 10:16 was spunky Caitlin Cook.
