Race Starts promptly at 6:00 p.m.!!

Timing by George Frazier

This years race will benefit 1 year-old Jakob Tweedlie, from Yorkville, Ohio, and memorialize Debbie Green. Debbie was 4-years old when she was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1970. A lifetime resident of Benwood, Debbie is survived by her parents, Mary and Felix Green, three brothers Robert (deceased), Greg and Ron and a sister Carolyn.

During Debbie's bout with Leukemia, she would take frequent trips to West Virginia University Hospital for treatment. She made the first trips with family members, at times with the help of the Benwood Fire Department. During this time, Debbie was a first grade student at St. John's Grade School in Benwood. She enjoyed her schoolwork, classmates and all the normal things little girls enjoy. Debbie was very well liked by everyone she met.

February 10, 1972 was Debbie Green Day in the City of Benwood, with a benefit show at St. John's School gymnasium. It was sponsored by WOMP Radio, the Benwood Fire Department and many friends. It was a very special day for Debbie, her family and her friends. Unfortunately, only two months later, on April 4, 1972, Debbie passed away.
