The Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 1-3) will soon arrive, signaling the end of summer and often with a hint of fall in the air. This last long weekend before autumn also marks Holly River State Park's yearly celebration of crafts, local history, music, mountain biking, and family entertainment. Now in its ninth year, the Holly River Festival will, once again, bring a wide array of crafters, games, activities, and entertainment to the park grounds.

Sunday, September 3rd marks one of the festival's main attractions, the Holly River Revenge mountain bike race, now in its second year. The race promises two challenging courses, a 9-10 mile loop for beginner and sport classes, and a 13-14 mile prologue and loop for the expert/pro rider, extending deep into the park's over 8000 acre interior and featuring several stream crossings. Sanctioned this year by the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association, registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with the race start at noon, and concluding with a catered meal and prize ceremony for the competitors. The fee is $25 or $20 for WVMBA members, with 100% payback for the expert/pro classes and a generous prize table for the other competitors. Water stops, hot showers, bike wash, and beverages, as well as emergency services will be available, and a large number of racers is expected. Spectators may view the competition from several vantage points, with all biking activity beginning and ending at the Carpenter Pavilion.
