The 2000 running of the Paden City Labor Day 5K came with moderate temperatures but high humidity. Also, an unofficial measuring of the course found it to be 3.2 instead of 3.1 miles. With these factors accounted for, it wasn't going to be a PR race.

When the racing got started Daniel Edgell, Allan Brown, David Shupbach, Adam Wells, and Josh Weekley led the way. Before long Edgell and Brown pulled away from the lead pack. Then, about a mile in, Edgell began to gap Brown while Weekley pulled away from Shupbach and the rest.

At the finish line it was Edgell taking the win in 16:28 followed by Brown in 17:17. Weekley took the final podium spot with a time of 17:50 with Shupbach taking fourth overall in 18:21.

The women's champ, Ann Fraker (22:15) led from start to finish. Meanwhile, Emma Archer (25:50) and Sarah Peard (25:50) took the 2nd and 3rd overall spots, respectively, for the females. Rumor has it that the these two Magnolia High School runners, weren't showing there best stuff. Maybe they were saving something for the upcoming high school meets... time will tell.
