Edging down the mountain
Brutal weather conditions were waiting for the participants of the
WPSC King & Queen of the Mountain Triathlon Saturday at Seven
Springs Resort. High winds blew ice and snow across the NASTAR
Course, where racers were forced to face the elements head on. After
some minor course adjustments, the triathletes were ready to go.
The participants could choose to participate in 3 out of 5 categories
which included skis, ski boards, snowboards, telemark skis, and cross
country skis. They were also allowed to take two runs down the
mountain in each category, and the course was set up as a giant
slalom. Some racers were part of a team that split up the classes,
while others were just multi-talented athletes who accepted the
challenge all by themselves.
