Schussing down Avalanche
Eighty-four competitors from five local ski clubs gathered at Seven Springs resort to compete in the 2001 WPSC Council Cup. Each racer had one shot at the slalom course on Avalanche and the team score would comprise of the top 5 mens and top 3 womens times from each club.

For the women, Mon Valley Ski Club's Mimi Pottinger (the third woman through the gate) set the time to beat at 34.37 seconds. Laura Descutner of the Pittsburg Ski Club came close with a time of 37.21 seconds but it was Mimi's teamate Rossi Littlefield who finally bested Pottinger's time with a 34.05 second run to take first place in the womens class leaving Pottinger in second and Descutner in third. Jace Pasquale of the Pittsburgh Ski Club finished the day in fourth (37.31 s) followed by Westmoreland's Lynne Hartnett (37.32 s)

Yeeeeeeeee Ha!
Jay Dolfi Crashing the gates....
For the men, Dane Morris (PSC) set the bar high for the rest of the competition early, running the course in 32.50 seconds. Fifty-seven others would try to best that mark but, in the end, Morris' early time held up. Finishing in a tie for second completing a sweep of the top three mens places by the Pittsburgh Ski Club were Paul Schade and Ken Dupre (32.54 s). Rouding out the top five men overall were Jay Dolfi (4th place - 32.69 s) and Jerre Harris (fifth place - 32.73 s) both of the Mon Valley Ski Club.

Ouch!
...and paying for it!
The race was not without controversy as the Appalachian Telemark club was upset after finding out that they would not receive a handicap. After a meeting of the minds between the club team captains and race officials the Telemark squad was awarded a handicap (according to NASTAR Rules) which put them in a tie with the Circle E Ski Club. Finishing in first place was the Mon Valley Ski Club with a score of 233.14 followed by the Pittsburgh Ski Club (238.15).
