This MTB race was hatched back in 1989 (when mountain bike racing was just
plain fun) and has grown dramatically, even to Virginia's largest race
In the past, it has been a rough and rugged affair, that seems like it climbs all the way around the constantly evolving 7 mile lap. In the past, the event has been accentuated by pond jumping exhibitions and log pulls. 1998 marked the first course using a the Kaylor's Knob ridge trail, creating a killer point-to-point adventure (the only best way to race!). This was an entirely technical wonder. So gloriously technical, in fact, that most of Dragon's Back looked like freeway in comparison. Thomas Jenkins, Mike Carpenter, Jamie Keehner, and a host of hard-working, hard-riding mountain bikers are responsible (and to BLAME) for this fabulous restoration project.
