That start to Winter XC in the rain
It didn't matter that the weather was nasty, and a cold rain was
falling, the hearty runners at WV-TAC's Winter XC race #2 showed that
they were ready for spring. The winter clothes were shed and the
shorts came out as they took to the slippery course in spring like
attire.
Steve Bohan, who raced the marathon for the Canada
in last year's World Championships, easily one the first race in the
two race series. However, Zach Sabitino, who is about to
represent the United States at this year's World Cross Country
Championships, was in the field.
Sabitino raced to a comfortable win despite two falls. But Bohan took
home the big check as his second place finish gave him the series win.
Forty-one year-old Larry Taylor took third behind Bohan along
with second place money for the series.
Heather Bury was looking to make it a clean sweep in the
women's field. Her biggest threat on the sloppy (considering all the
rain, it actually held up fairly well) WV-TAC course in Buckhannon
came from Karin Lockhart. Lockhart kept it close early but
Bury eventually pulled away to set a new course record and secure
the series title.
Stay tuned as we'll be bringing you more on the day's race along with
the complete race and series results.
