Race for the Cure in Charleston
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates survivorship and honors those who have lost the battle with the disease. With funds raised be the Komen Race for the Cure Series, the Komen Foundation with its affiliates is able to fund breast cancer grants, meritorious awards and community outreach programs.

Since its inception in 2001, the Komen West Virginia Race for the Cure has raised over two hundred thousand dollars. This money has been used to support life saving programs throughout West Virginia. Up to 75% of the funds raised stay in West Virginia to fund education, treatment and screening programs for underserved populations.

When & Where: Saturday, May 1, 2004 on Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston, WV (directly in front of the Capital Building.)

Registration and Packet Pick-Up: Registration and Packet Pick-up Party will be on Friday, April 30th, from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm at the First Bank of Charleston, 119 Virginia Street West. Race day registration and Packet Pick-up begins at 7:00 AM at the State Capitol.

Race Start Times:

  • 5K Run/Walk --- 9:00am (State Capitol)
  • 1 mile fun walk 9:05 am (State Capitol)
  • Komen Kids Race and many more family events will take place throughout the morning at the Capitol grounds!

Entry Fees:

  • $18 is received before 4/19/04 then $25
  • $10 for kids 12 and under
  • First 2500 registered recieve t-shirt and goody bag!

Awards: Top three overall and top three in each 5 year age division starting at under 14 thru 65 and over. Also have prizes for fundraising. The walking events have no awards. This race is certified by the USA Track & Field.

Proceeds from the Race will fund area Breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved, and 25% will help fund the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Grant Program.
