Sunday, September 12, 2004 -- Coopers Rock State Forest - Morgantown, WV
Henry Clay 30K - WVMBA Pts. #15 (iPO Event Id#: 6030)
Story and photos by Katy Black
When I was younger I wondered why people called Cooper's Rock, Cooper's Rock, but after this race I think I know the answer. Not only does the state park have some of the most breath-taking scenes around, but it also has some of the most gnarly bike trails I have ever seen. It was a beautiful day for a race Sunday, September 12.
Upon their arrival I was surprised to see that they were going at a more then steady pace down the hill single-file with the more experienced riders daring to pass one another. I only saw three people take a tumble off their bike, which I found extremely impressive! As the racers continued down the hill, many of their friends and family cheered them on and gave them the encouragement needed to finish the remainder of the trail.
Thanks to the sponsors, Wamsley Cycles and others, for providing such an exciting, adrenaline filled competition for men and women of all ages to enjoy, whether it be on a bike or on the sidelines.
