Hanging around Wisp
Now 100% open, Wisp at Deep Creek Resort has placed their events schedule in full swing. Being the only ski resort in Maryland is a big job, but with it's over 3,000 foot summit elevation and 11,845 lift capacity per hour, Wisp can handle it. Heck, they even have two new triple chairs.

Saturday morning kicked off the Sports Illustrated NextSnow Search event. The series is a quest to find the "extreme generation" of skiers and snowboarders. It's the first all-mountain, all equipment, and all-person snowsports competition. It's not just a competition - style, attitude, and personality are also factors. There is only one class, and everyone competes together. Boys and girls, skiers and snowboarders, and adaptive athletes are included. All contestants are ages 9-13. NextSnow hosts qualifying events around the country. The finals will be on NBC on March 5th in Keystone, Colorado.

Topping off a table-top
Unfortunately the weather was harsh and our cameras could not get any of the action due to visibility, but we did catch some high flyers later that after noon in one of Wisp's Terrain Parks. Conditions are ripe right now. Winter has returned, and lucky for Wisp, they get planty of natural snow. Their base is back up, with some nice powder spots to enjoy on mountain left.

Saturday night offered even more fun with a snow tubing party at Wisp's Bear Claw Tubing Park. Then a local band jammed on Stage Wisp, which is free by the way. No cover charge here. Stage Wisp is set to go on every Saturday night throughout the winter season.

Be sure to check out their next Winter Weekend going on February 5-6. Be a part of the first Asylum Rail Jam, or just watch it! There's more Saturday evening Snow Tubing Parties and enjoy the dining and lodging specials.
