The 11th Annual Rattlesnake Trail 50k was held on july 9, 2005 at Kanawha State Forest.

The trails were tough and the runners loved the trails. Tadd Morns of Pennsylvania was the overall winner in 4 hrs, 17 mins, 54 sec, followed by Bill Uffman of Maryland in 4 hrs, 21 min, 16 sec. In 3rd was Bill Young of West Virginia at 4 hrs, 38 min, 10 sec.

On the women's side, Bethany Patterson of Virginia was 1st in a time of 5 hrs, 25 min, 25 sec. Next was Nancy Pullen of North Carolina completing the course in 5 hrs, 34 min, 52 sec. 3rd place woman was Sharon Marks of West Virginia in 5 hrs, 46 min 15 sec.

Masters male was Lew Mcgrath, West Virginia and female master was Suzanne Weightman of PA.

This was one of the best RTR 50Ks I have directed. The course was great. (Kanawha State Forest staff cleared all 18 trails!)

The Kanawha Valley Amateur Radio group covered all 9 of our stops.

The course has 10 climbs and 5,000 feet of climbing. Many of the runners felt the course was as tough as Promise Land. Maybe tougher due to the continual climb and decent.

We had a runner from Canada, Andrew Heij. He ran a time of 5:25:25. He drove 10 hours on Friday to get to the race.

All in all we had runners from 10 states and Canada. It was great to see so many runners come back.

Vic Ware and Joni Adams have completed all 11 RTR 50Ks. They are both from West Virginia.

Rob Apple completed his 421st ultra.

Two of our finishers, Jerry Cochran and daughter Corinthia, each received a special award in honor of two ultra runners who passed away from cancer. The awards are the Dave Barry award and Rosemary Platt award.

Thanks again to all the runners. I look forward to seeing you at the Snowflake 50k the first weekend in December.

Dennis, Race Director
