Racing on the rail-trail
The Elkins Randolph YMCA will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2008. The Century of Service Series is helping commemorate the Y's 100th year of service in the community and encourage physical fitness by rewarding individuals who participate in local running and walking events.

Dogs and kids in strollers were welcomed this year at the Elkins YMCA Race. Doing things a little differently, racers lined up on the local rail-trail to strut their stuff. Although slightly cramped for the take off, the trail proved to be a better place than any for a nice run through Elkins in celebration of Elkins Randolph YMCA's 100th birthday in the future.

Serious summer running
Walkers were first to start, then in the opposite direction the runners were off, to meet back in the same place for the finish.

After the race people were invited to enjoy the refreshments. They waited anxiously to hear their times announced and for their names to be called. It was a great day to be outside in the beauty of Elkins, WV and I would encourage everyone to join in next year's race.
