The Location: Charles Fork Lake in Spencer, West Virginia is a multi-use area with over 25 miles of trails surrounding a mile long lake that sports excellent fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The trails were developed by local mountain biking enthusiasts. It's one of the most beautiful venues in the east. The trail system is mostly single-track that offers a rewarding experience for all levels of mountain bikers. Primitive camping is available. Bring the family, the setting is beautiful and very spectator friendly.
To Benefit: The lake, in Roane County, West Virginia, is owned by the City of Spencer and maintained by the Friends of Charles Fork Lake. This event will provide funds to the City of Spencer and the Friends of Charles Fork Lake.
Course: Same course as last year. The course is ready for pre-riding. And downed trees are being removed. During the race, the course is extremely well marked and the Roane County Fire and Rescue Squad has personnel stationed at numerous points around the lake. However, it is your responsibility to know the race course. We will not be closing off trails at crucial intersections. It will be well marked but you need to know which way to go! Also note that the distances are a bit longer than 15K and 30K. Note: The beginner class is for NOVICE riders. If you are a stronger rider, please use the sport classes - step up to the challenge and ride the 2 lap race.
15K Race (1 Lap) - Women High School (15-18), Men Juniors* (14 & under), Men & Women Beginner/Novice: The race begins by the log cabin along the entrance road to the lake and make a short steep climb into the parking lot. At the other end of the lot the course turns right up the hill. No prologue this year - climb the Fireroad to Jungle Pass and go from there.
30K Race (2 Laps) - All other WVMBA classes: This year the 2 laps will both utilize Lakeview Trail since the fireroad is still wiped out by the ice storm. Lap 1 is the same fall all racer while lap 2 will climb up Charlie's at the back end of the lake and finish on Chadway Trail.
