Father and son race together on Father's Day
Is it okay to beat your dad in a race on Father's Day? Well Mike and his son Mickel from Pickerington, Ohio seem to think its okay. Mike, a former Pro racer in the WVMBA series himself, was beaten on Father's Day by guess who?. . . His son. "Hey, it's Father's Day." joked the proud Dad, "That's not how it's supposed to happen."

On a hot Fathers Day afternoon, the 10th Annual Appalachian Classic Mountain Bike Race was held at Calhoun County Park near Grantsville West Virginia. This year's proved to be classic yet again. With the track being bone dry, it made for some extremely fast and sometimes slick excitement on the downhill sections.

The pain of dry dirt on the backbone
T.J. Platt from New Kensington, Pennsylvania took his second overall series win this year in 1.50.22. Platt was followed by Steve Hill, also of the Men's Pro/Expert class, who finished three minutes behind him.

In the Women's Pro/Expert class, Cassie Smith took her fifth overall series win of the year. The husband and wife team of Joey and Mandi Riddle finished third and second in there respected Pro classes. Crossing the finish as the third Pro Woman, was Meredith Erlewine of Athens, Ohio with a time of 2.35.24.

Once again the weekend long event was a huge success with proceeds going to Calhoun County Park. The single-track is awesome, the place is beautiful, and the people are great. I look forward to seeing all of you out there on the trail.
