The kids get off to a great start
Approximately 93 athletes turned out for the 8th Annual Kenneth Cunningham 5-K Memorial Cross Country Run that was held Saturday, August 26, 2006 on the Davis and Elkins College athletic field in Elkins, WV.

This course has a challenging upper trail which turns and winds throughout a cool, shaded, wooded area, and the lower part of the course has two wide streams to cross. It has been the site of West Virginia's State High School Cross-Country Championship.

The day's events included a 2-mile Trail Walk, a 400 meter Fun Run for kids 7 years and younger, a ½ mile mini Cross-Country Run for kids 8-11 years of age, and the featured 5-K race with the individual/team concept of teams randomly chosen after "last minute registration" closed.

It was noted that athletes who are members of a middle school or high school cross-country team would be unable to participate in the "Fun Teams", however on an individual basis the overall male and female winner would be based on talent and fire from within.
