Big Heart, Mini Tri

Though small in overall numbers, the Davis Health Systems Mini Triathlon was big in heart. Large numbers of volunteers joined the cause, helping to support Youth Health Service, Inc.

The organization is a private, non-profit, behavioral health and social service agency that strives to encourage and support communicating, planning and acting between children and their families and between families and their communities.

The event certainly did not lack for prizes or entertainment, complete with tents, DJ, and excellent facilities at Davis and Elkins College, in the heart of Elkins, WV. Distances included a 400-yard indoor pool swim, 12-mile road bike, and a 3.1-mile mild cross country run.

The first team to finish were also the first to come in, Team Blurrrrrrr. The local athletes completed the total mini-tri in a fast total time of 54 minutes and 14 seconds.

"I don't even own a road bike." commented team member, Joey Riddle. "I had to borrow this one." Road rider or not, Riddle proved to a fast biker. He's a local mountain bike racer in the area, routinely at the top of the list at most WV Mountain Bike Association point series events.
