Racing in the Scottdale rain
It will take more than rain to stop these runners... (go
boy, go!)
A great number of people were present, rain or not, to run Saturday in
Scottdale PA. The 5K Run & Walk brought in over 140 contestants
dressed and ready to go at 9 a.m. The event, part of the Scottdale
Fall Festival, weaved the runners and walkers thru the city's streets,
which were patrolled by the local police to ensure a safe racing
route.
Spirits were still high, though soaked, as Jamie
Brooks (26:12) smiled thru the precipitation and finished second
to Steve
Bence (26:05) in the 5K Walk. Another racer laughed and said,
"This rain was just here to cool us off," after hustling to the
finish.

The final surge to the finish
In the end, Nick Hornick crossed the line first in the 5K Run
at 17:54 trailed by Bob Costello (18:16) and Mark
Naymick (18:23) finishing second and third overall.
Scottdale's own Angie Garlowich was awarded first in the
Women's 5K Run finishing with a time of 21:31. Paula Bossart
(22:02) and Rita Cooper (23:11) finished second and third in
Women's overall.
After the race, the smiles and laughter emanating from the banana box,
the pizza tent, and water station is proof: every cloud has its silver
lining.
