Ready to Race on the Gauley? |
The ANIMAL Upper Gauley Race is a downriver sprint on a
legendary section of river. Racers paddle 9 miles, negotiate the 'Big
Five' Rapids on the Upper Gauley, and then finish at the big drop
known as Sweet's Falls. This world-class event has become the end of
the season celebration for people that love the Upper Gauley River.
In it's 8th year, the Upper Gauley Race has grown in notoriety and
participation. Racers come from all segments of the paddling
community: World Champion Rodeo Boaters, U.S. Wildwater Team members,
professional videographers as well as amateur recreational boaters
that have a personal goal.
When: Monday, September 25, 2000
Where: Summersville, West Virginia
Participants in 1999: 38 hardboaters, 10 raft teams with 6
people in each raft = 98 paddlers
