Yes, you get to annoy your fellow competitors while you run! It'll give you an edge, trust me. We'll have to wait and see if last year's "Grab the Santa Hat" game will be played as well. (In the game, a couple of Santa hats were given to runners before the race. Other runners then got to try and steal the hats during the race, and the people who ended up with the hats at the end of the race got prizes.) When:9:30 AM, of course! Registration:No preregistration is necessary. Race day registration is from 8:30 to 9:15 AM. Entry fees are $3 for SVR members, $4 for non-members, and $1 for students. SVR membership applications will be available so that you can join the club on the spot and take advantage of the member discount. As at the first race, you can also sign up for the whole series for a one-time fee of $20. (No refunds if any races are cancelled.) Course:The 5K is certified and consists of one loop, mostly on unpaved roads, in and around the Blandy Experimental Farm. The start is on Blandy Farm Road maybe a thousand feet northwest of where you'll park & sign up; the finish is also on Blandy Farm Road right by parking & registration. Yes, this is the same course we used last year, and it's the course that was also used by the Millwood FUNdraiser 5K last April. Information:Contact race director Patrick Farris at (540) 678-4041! Blandy Experimental Farm & State Arboretum, south of Boyce, VA. Blandy Farm is located approximately 12 miles from Winchester, 17 miles from Front Royal, 10 miles from Berryville, 38 miles from Martinsburg, WV, and 80 miles from Washington, DC. Here is a map courtesy of MapBlast! From Berryville and points north & east: Follow Route 340 south to the intersection with Routes 50/17 at Waterloo, and turn left at the light. Follow 50/17 for 1.5 miles, and then turn right into the Virginia State Arboretum (Blandy Farm Road). Follow the road for 0.5 miles as it loops around, and then park on the right. From Winchester & points west: Follow Routes 50/17 east. Continue straight through the intersection with Route 340 at Waterloo, and 1.5 miles past the light, turn right into the Virginia State Arboretum (Blandy Farm Road). Follow the road for 0.5 miles as it around, and then park on the right. From Front Royal & points south: Take Route 340 north to the intersection with Routes 50/17 at Waterloo, and turn right at the stoplight. Drive for 1.5 miles, turn right into the Virginia State Arboretum (Blandy Farm Road), and follow the road for 0.5 miles as it loops around until you see the parking area on the right. From Middleburg & points east: Take Route 50 west. Approximately four miles past the Shenandoah River bridge, turn left into the Virginia State Arboretum (Blandy Farm Road). Follow the road for 0.5 miles as it loops around, and then park on the right.
