"Set on backcountry trails in Tucker County West Virginia, this 24-mile, point series mountain bike race will cover some of the most scenic terrain in the east," said John Northeimer, recreation director at Canaan Valley Resort.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m., racers take-off in a mass start before riding into the Canaan Valley wilderness in their attempt to grab first place. Prizes will be awarded three deep in eighteen classes.

Northeimer said that the race is open to both West Virginia Mountain Bike Association members and nonmembers. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the race, or participants can pre-registration from Noon to 4 pm on Saturday. A fee of $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers is required.

There will also be a race for kids, Northeimer added. The "Back Hollow Mountain Bike Race" will be held on Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. The categories include ages six and younger, seven and eight year olds, nine and ten year olds, and eleven and twelve year olds. The start time is 4:30 p.m. and there is an award ceremony following the race. Registration is from noon to four, and there is no fee to enter.

In conjunction with the "24-Miles of Canaan", the resort is offering a special weekend lodging package. The offer includes two nights lodging, two days of breakfast in the Aspen dining room, and a special gift. The cost for the package is $69.00 per person, based on double occupancy. Children twelve and under lodge free.

"Whether you're an experienced mountain biker, a beginner or just a spectator, this promises to be a great weekend for biking enthusiasts as well as those trying to get away from the heat," Northeimer said.
