Taking to the streets of South Connellsville
[2000 Coverage]
The annual Anchor Glass Rolling Rock 5k run through South
Connellsville featured a fairly flat course with a few pleasant hills
along the way. This race featured over 125 runners and walkers
on a great Thursday evening for a run.
In the men's division Larry Thompson from Washington,
Pennsylvania captured first place with a time of 17:20. He finished
close to 25 seconds ahead of second place hometown Connellsville
resident Brad Herrington who finished in a time of 17:44.
According to Thompson, the course was very nice and challenging and
the competition was tough. Over the first mile and a half he battled
it out with Herrington and then took off. Joseph Carei found
the line to take third place honors at 17:58.

Now that's a race face!
In the female division Tammy Shell repeated last year's
performance by winning the race in a time of 21:31. Chasing her was
Carolyn Quinn and Angie Garlowich who finished in
21:46.46 and 21:46.76 respectively, an extremely close battle for
second and third place overall. Shell stated that it was very
challenging for a 5k run with the several moderate hills. Once she
was able to get the lead she just tried to maintain it until the end
of the race.
The race proceeds are being given to the Wesley Health Center. a
non-profit health care provider in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Mary
Hood and Donna Rodeheaver said that the money would be used for better
patient care. They also mentioned that they were very thankful to
Anchor Glass and Rolling Rock for allowing them to be the recipient of
the proceeds from the race.
Also a thank you goes out to SERJ Timing Services of Uniontown who
were gracious in providing us with results from the race and "Let's Go
Mountaineers!"
