Take in well deserved rest after completing the Rattlesnake
Beware of the Bear may have been the warning of the day
as several riders had to take a break from the race to wait for the
big, black, furry critters to vacate the course. Race leader and
eventual winner Benji Klimas took a 3 minute rest while a black
bear "must have been 10 foot tall" lingered in the middle of the trail
while XXC riders Jonathan Martin and Kevin Wetzel also
had their 42 mile adventure interrupted. Martin considered luring the
bear off the trail with a PB&J sandwich but decided to wait it
out. Jeremiah Bishop, trying to storm troop his way to the
WVMBA Pro/Expert class championship was slowed by a mechanical (rear
derailleur) but still managed a high finish, nipping TJ Platt
at the line and making things very interesting going into the final
race of the series at Winterplace. The results are complete and we'll
have more as soon as we can, so take a few ibuprofen, and keep on
recovering from the weekend.
