Posted 5/28/02 On June 2, 2002 ACE Adventure Center welcomes back the Big Canyon Off-Road Triathlon, a Nissan Xterra Points Series Race and a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Each athlete must complete a 1.5-swim, 7-mile run, and 13-bike course in order to finish the race. The triathlon starts deep in the heart of West Virginia on the mighty New River. The athletes will begin the swim portion of the race at the National Park Service's Stone Cliff Access located near the historic town of Thurmond and exit 1.5 miles down stream. From there, they will don their running shoes and begin the 7-mile run, climbing out of the gorge 1,000 vertical feet to ACE Adventure Center. There, the racers will switch gears yet again to begin a 13-mile mountain bike loop around the 1,400 acre trail system we call ACE Adventure Center. If you are ready for some down and dirty off-road adventure racing, then come to Southern West Virginia on June 2nd for the Big Canyon Off-Road Triathlon! On site lodging and meals are available. For details, call 888-223-7238 or email director@aceraft.com. See you there. ### AN XTERRA MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL POINT SERIES RACE It's back with all its bravado and more! The Second Annual Big Canyon Off Road Triathlon returns to the ACE Adventure Center and the New River Gorge National River in Oak Hill, West Virginia on June 2, 2002! This event will feature a mile and a half swim in the New River, a seven mile trail/forest service road run to ACE and culminate with a 13 mile Mt. bike ride over the trails located entirely on the ACE Adventure Center. During the Mt. Bike portion of the race you will be able to look down 800' to the New River and see the swim/run transition area! This race is an early morning event so it is recommended that you stay in the area. There is on site lodging ranging from campsites to Chalets and Cabins with hottubs and satellite TV. There is also on site dining facilities and a lounge for your support crew, since you will be resting for the race! This event will fill up rapidly so register soon! The first 100 competitors will receive a race T-shirt! All racers must be USAT members. One-day memberships will be available the day of the race.
Registration and Race Packet Pickup Friday May 31 From 12 noon until 6pm at the ACE WELCOME CENTER located just inside the front gate. Saturday June 1 From 7am to 8pm at the ACE WELCOME CENTER located just inside the front gate. Sunday June 2, 2002 6am to 8am packet pickup only, NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION, 8:00am pre-race meeting.
