Saturday, September 27, 2003 -- Clarksburg, WV
[Details]
[Coverage]
Special Agent Jerry Dove, a West Virginia native, was honored for his heroic actions while in the line of duty. He was killed in the line of duty in a shootout with two serial bank robbers in the infamous "Miami Firefight" on April 11, 1986.
This 5K was dedicated to the memory of SA Dove and to all Enforcement
Officers, Firefighters, Military Personnel, and others who have been
killed while serving in the line of duty.
For the men, Larry Taylor of Fayetteville (curiously listed in the results as hailing from St. Mary's) West Virginia won for the third straight year with a 16:32. Coming in second was Mark Courtney of Runner's High fame, from Grove City, PA with a time of 17:47. And you might have guessed, he also coordinated the timing the race!!
Rounding out the top three was the Fairmont native, Joey Herron,
with a time of 18:36. Just think, the top three overall winners
were masters runners! Great job "kids"!
After the 5K, a KIDS-K was added this year. The little tykes got a chance to run and have fun. All the kids got a commemorative T-shirt and medal for finishing the race. Everyone was glad the rain held off until the race was finished. Thanks to the FBI, FBIRA and all the volunteers for helping to put the race on this year. A job well done! |
