Clowning around pre-race time
The second race of the Morgantown Area Grand Prix Series (MAGP) had smiles abound as well over 100 people raced down Main Street. The 5-Mile run is always a big draw, being that most races in the series are of shorter length. Grafton, West Virginia welcomed it's racers and boasted it's 5-Mile Run theme, 30 years and still runnin'. After a few days of wonderful weather, the temperatures dropped and the wind picked up just in time for the race.

Up first were the kids. They had a half a mile run up Main Street then back to the finish line to receive their medals. Some parents ran with their children, but most waited proudly at the finish line. After catching their breath and receiving a medal for their participation, the kids stood by to cheer on their moms and dads.

The kids strut their stuff
The horn was sounded and the runners were off. The race started in front of the Elk Lodge, went down Main Street, and looped back around to the B&O where the finish line was set up. First to cross the line was 22 year old Ben Bolock, from Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, with a time of 24:23. Some seconds behind Ben was an 18 year old from Morgantown WV, Ryan Skotnicki, with a time of 24:53. Steven Johnson, 20, from Elkins, WV, was the third racer to cross with a time of 25:42.

And now for the ladies. Crossing first for the women and 9th overall was Heather Bury, 30, from Bruceton Mills, WV with a time of 30:44. The second woman to cross was 21 year old Heather McDaniel, from Grafton, WV with a time of 32:05. Finishing 3rd with a time of 34:23, was Melanie Watkins, 27, from Morgantown, WV.

Fun and games in Grafton
The walkers started and ended with the runners, but they only raced for 2 miles instead of 5. Leading the walkers was Craig Baer, from Fort Hill, PA with a time of 16:53. Kim Kine, from Fairmont, WV was 2nd overall, finishing with a time of 21:14. Ernest Dell, from Pennsboro, WV was the third walker to cross the line only one second behind Kim with a time of 21:15.

Congratulations to all the participants of the Grafton 5 Mile Run. Thank you to the race coordinators and Elk Lodge for yet another great year.
