Michelle Baker blitzed the women’s field by almost a minute and a half in 21:33. Shannon (22:54) and Heidi Harbaugh (23:24) placed second and third respectively on the flat, out-and-back course on the Wheeling Heritage Trail in Warwood.

In the walking division, Wheeling’s Tony Purpura, who last year placed third to Jerry Goodwin, upset the reigning champion by thirty seconds with a scintillating time of 29:23. David Workman crossed the finish line on Viking Drive at Warwood Middle School in 31:23 for third place.

Martin’s Ferry’s Dana Bendel easily won the female division of the walk in 32:31, and Josey Goodwin (36:17) beat Michelle Milbert by a mere second to win third place honors.

Notably, Richard Hall placed fifth overall while winning the 60 to 69 age division of the run; and Gordon Downie placed forty-fourth overall at age 72 in a time of 24:29, winning his age division by a whopping four and a half minutes.

More than 160 runners and walkers participated in the race, which was sponsored by the Ohio Valley Runners’ & Walkers’ Club and which benefits the programming of the Ohio County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
