One of the "old parks" in the state of West Virginia, many of the buildings, walls, and steps are made from cut sandstone... and of course there is the gristmill. The "infamous" Gristmill on Glade Creek was constructed from several old mills from WV. Still in operation today, the mill is a peek back into time. Enjoy the natural setting, many photo opportunities, and a visit to the gift shop for unique gifts.

Great trails at Babcock
  • The loop course consists of some road at the beginning before jumping onto a narrow single track named the Lakeview Trail. This single-track trail leads the runner around the lake and then drops down to the road near the Gristmill.

  • Runners cross the bridge at the Gristmill and soon are back in the woods on Skyline. After a steep, short climb, Skyline parallels the cliff line and offers several beautiful overlooks. After the initial climb, the trail is gradual and rolling.

  • A short road section follows and then a turn takes you onto the Narrow Gauge Trail. This terrain is rugged, and spectacular! Waterfalls, rocks, mud, everything a trail runner could ever hope for.

  • The climbs are primarily between mile 2 and 3 on the Skyline Trail and then again from mile 10 to the end. There is a gradual uphill grade approaching the finish. Three aid stations will have water, sports drink and radios.

Directions to Start/Registration // Enter Babcock State Park at the Main Entrance. Go past the Gristmill, left and up the paved road. Continue past the lake and pool parking lot to the Sugar Camp Run Picnic Area. This will be the Start & Finish for the race. Packet pick up and race day registration will begin at 8:00am in the morning.

About the Race Location // Babcock State Park, located on Route 41 at Clifftop is 4,100 acres of rugged and beautiful forest and will be the site for this exciting new trail run. Glade and Mann's Creek both flow through the park, and have carved deep canyons in the Sandstone in their plunge (literally!) to the New River Gorge.
