This year's event proceeds went to Ohiopyle's volunteer fire and
rescue squads, and American Whitewater's Access Program (See the Ohiopyle Falls Access Proposal Page for more
info). Three years strong now, the Ohiopyle Falls Race &
Freestyle has attracted well over 200 participants from all over
the United States. With big names such as Jeff Snyder, and
Clay Wright having shown up in the past, it's become quite an
event for the spectators as well. The tiny town of Ohiopyle comes
alive with vendors and a wide variety of food, as hundreds of
on-lookers and paddlers hustle and bustle throughout the park.
Practice sessions for running the falls went on most of the day on
Saturday. The official race took place on Sunday. We're hoping to
scrape up some results here soon (you can always check here, too: http://www.emich.edu/paddle/AOPFindex.html), so check out the exciting pics in
the meantime.
Special Thanks: To American Whitewater, Ohiopyle's volunteer
fire and rescue squads, The Ohiopyle State Park Service, Riversport,
Eastern Michigan University Paddling School, all of the event sponsors
and volunteers for making this race possible.
