Davis, WV (May 3, 2002) - These country roads won't take you anywhere close to home, but they will get you to the finish line of the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association's "24-Miles of Canaan", to be held Sunday, May 12 at Canaan Valley Resort.

"Set on backcountry trails in Tucker County West Virginia, this 24-mile, point series mountain bike race will cover some of the most scenic terrain in the east," said John Northeimer, recreation director at Canaan Valley Resort.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m., racers take-off in a mass start before riding into the interior of Canaan Valley State Park in their attempt to grab first place. Prizes will be awarded in nineteen classes.

Northeimer said that the race is open to both West Virginia Mountain Bike Association members and nonmembers. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the race, or participants can pre-register from Noon to 4 pm on Saturday, May 11. A fee of $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers is required.

"Whether you're an experienced mountain biker, beginner or just a spectator, this promises to be a great opportunity to enjoy springtime in the great outdoors," Northeimer said.
