Larry Taylor gets out in front early
Larry Taylor,41, Fayetteville, West Virginia, finished first in the second annual FBI Jerry Dove Memorial 5K, held at the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) Complex, Jerry Dove Drive, Clarksburg, West Virginia. This was Taylor's second time winning gold in this event while setting the certified course record finishing at 16:35, setting the pace at 5:21 m/m.

Dr. Murshid Latif, 43, Clarksburg, finished second claiming silver with a time of 17:23 and Greg Edgell, 51, West Union, won the bronze, taking third at a time of 18:15.

The Women's Overall saw Melissa Riley, 24, winning gold with a time of 23:29. Debbie Moore, 49, Manchester, Tennessee winning the silver at 23:58 and Morgantown's Briony Poe, 29, taking bronze with a time of 24:16.

The FBI Recreation Association and the CJIS Wellness Committee sponsored this event. CJIS Assistant Director Michael Kirkpatrick opened the 5K by welcoming 317 registered participants and their families that came from not only WV but from TX, TN, MO, NJ, SC, FL, VA, OH, and PA.

Meghann Gregory, a senior at Grafton High School sang the National Anthem beautifully and Father Hilarian Cann offered words of praise and prayer. With the runners on their mark, Kirkpatrick started the race at 9:02 AM. 282 persons ranging from 4 (four) years of age to 73 (seventy-three) crossed the finish line with the last walker crossing at 10:17 AM.

Trophies and medals were given to the top three male and female overall winners. Medals were also given to the top three male and females in ten age categories: 19 & under; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; and 60 & over. A long sleeved, heavy-weight T-shirt was provided to all participants.

The paved course ran 1.55 miles on Jerry Dove Drive, Exit 124 off I-79, across the CJIS complex, to the main building and returned outbound on this same roadway featuring a slightly challenging hill. At the finish line, refreshments were provided to all participants compliments of Culligan Water, Kroger Company, Panera Bread Co., Pepsi Co. and McDonalds.

Area merchants and eating establishments contributed 118 door prizes that were given during this event including Lakeview Golf package for four ($300 value), a Stonewall Jackson Resort and a Clarksburg Country Club Golf package for two with cart, and many other fabulous prizes. West Virginia Radio Corporation - WVAQ 101.9/WFBY 102.3/Magic 106.5 - provided the Coca-Cola Boom Box and audio services.
