The Big Bear Ultra is the 5th race in the WVMBA ultra series. It is a mountain bike race that tests the participants' endurance ability. Only well conditioned cyclists should attempt this event.

Race: Saturday, September 22, 2007, 8:00am

Registration: Will be open Friday evening from 6-9:00 pm and Sat. morning at 6am.

Course: The course will cover between 60 miles or more (still exploring different routes). We will start with most of the single track within Big Bear, approximately 25 miles. Then follow old jeep roads and gravel county roadways across Briery Mountain for about 30 miles. We will finish up with the "climb to the pines" and follow 5 miles of single track back to the entrance at Big Bear. Expect to climb over 4,000 feet. The course will be well marked and maps will be provided. Please be aware, due to the length and nature of the course we can not guarantee all markings will be in place. It is up to the racer to watch for the signs and follow the map.

Aid: At least 4 aid stations will be in place with water and snacks. The last aid station will have a cut off time of 10 hours.

Classes: open men and women, master men 45+, single speed

Cost: $60 West Virginia Mountain Bike Assoc. (WVMBA) members, $65 non-members

Bonus: Tee shirts to all racers with food and beverages afterwards! Plus weekend camping at Beaver Creek is free for all racers and $15 for a non-racing guest.

Lodging: is available at the new Microtell in Hazelton, WV. Ask for the special Big Bear Ultra discount. 304-379-7900
