About J. Cecil Jarvis:

On May 22, 2007, J. Cecil Jarvis, 58, was killed in a bicycle crash in rural Lewis County while training for Ironman Louisville. Cecil was an extraordinary man who touched the lives of many people in North Central West Virginia. Cecil was a remarkably well-rounded individual who achieved a noble balance of faith, family, friendship, and fitness in his life.

His attributes included an innate sense of goodness, respect for all, humility, integrity, and humor. A dedicated family man, Cecil was also an accomplished civic leader, businessman, engineer, attorney, outdoorsman, and athlete.

Cecil completed over 20 marathons, including The Boston Marathon in April 2007, and four Ironman triathlons (swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles).

Cecil was a man who possessed an "anything is possible" mentality. He was indeed one of those rare individuals who set a good example for all of us.

It is our belief that this triathlon will not only help keep Cecil's memory alive, but it will also help to serve as a reminder to us that we all have the capability of improving and we all possess the ability to make a difference.

Event Goal (Mission Statement):

To come together in the spirit of family, health, and community in memorial tribute to J. Cecil Jarvis and encourage a goal-oriented fitness lifestyle by providing a fun and challenging event which will cause participants to reflect on ways they can improve themselves and inspire others while having the occasion to contribute to The J. Cecil Jarvis Foundation.

The Motto: Because life counts
