Why do it?

Please help us raise funds for the family of Sammy Klimas, a 10 month old who was recently diagnosed with cancer (Neuroblastoma). The latest news on Sammy is available at: www.caringbridge.org/visit/sammyklimas

HUNT Distances

  • HIKE - Short Distance: suitable for adults with small children and those who are looking for a gentle day of activity. This is a walking hunt. Foks can sign up and pick up their hunt packets anytime between 10am - noon at North Bend's lodge. This hunt is $5

  • BIKE - Mid-range: (about 10 miles) suitable for adults with pre-teen and teenage children and those looking for some challenging activities. This hunt is being organized by Nancy Miller who managed our finish line experience for years. It promises to be a hoot! Pick up packets at the lodge between 10 - noon. This hunt is $5 per person.

  • BIKE - Long Distance: starting in Parkersburg and ending at North Bend. The hunt will have options from 30 - 50 miles. You choose. It will start with a 30 mile ride on the Rails to Trails. You can then ride the 20 mile mountain bike race course once you get there for a 50 mile hard-core day!

When / Where: We will meet at 9 am in the WVU-P parking lot, North Bend State Park. We'll be load camping gear and any/or supplies you would like to have at the rest stops.

Cost(s): This hunt is $10 a person if you are just doing the hunt. This helps us cover the costs of the sag wagon which will meet you at 2 stops along the way to provide snacks and a ride if you need it. If you are camping there is an additional $20 fee per person to cover gear transport, a camping spot rental and breakfast. Children 6 and under are only $5 per person with a paid adult.

There is no advanced registration but we would appreciate a heads up if you want to camp with us. We have reserved the group camping site and spaces are limited and will be given out first come first served.

Thank You: Woodcraft has generously donated 50 birdhouse kits and after folks are finished with their hunts they can enjoy a meal together and make a construct a birdhouse to take home and enjoy. More Ways to help Sammy! RACE

For those looking for some hard-core competition, make sure you sign up for the North Bend WVMBA point series mountain bike race on July 13th. We are helping design the course and promise to punish folks as badly as we always have. Practice climbing :).

About the WVMBA Race: The organizers of the mountain bike race on July 13th have decided to donate the proceeds of the event to the Klimas family. Benji is from Parkersburg and now lives just outside of Morgantown in Bruceton Mills, WV. He has been involved in mountain biking for a long,long time. His mother is actually one of the founding members of Adventure Pursuit. Benji's 10-month old son was diagnosised with cancer last month and the community is pulling together to help them face the medical bills. Even with insurance the bills will be enormous. There will be a donation jar at the scavenger hunt registration areas for those who would like to help.
