Walkers brave the rain.

The weather has finally turned cold and the 2013 Charleston Winter Series is now here. The monthly Sunday afternoon ritual is in full swing with the 5k distance in the books.

It was a wet and wild race with a constant rain falling on the over 400 participants for the duration of the event.

David McCollam was the male overall winner with a time of 15:21. At 15:42 Jason Pyles crossed the tape in 2nd. Jason's running partner, Marian Pyles, was the female overall winner with a time of 18:11. She was followed across the line by Allison Cox with a 18:54.

The 2nd event in the series is an 8K on January 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The 4K walk starts an hour earlier at 1:00 pm. Additional information on the event can be found right here on iPlayOutside.

All events start at 31st Street and Virginia Avenue, and registration is at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital. Check out the course maps.
