Welcome to the 30th anniversary edition of the Revenge of the Rattlesnake, formerly known as the Canaan Mountain 40K. This is the oldest continuously run single loop backcountry mountain bike race in existence (that we know of anyways), and is consistently described as "old school." This year's race will follow the majority of the original course, with the addition of approximately 16 miles of amazing single-track not in the original!
Onsite registration is Saturday, September 21st from 8:30-10:30 AM behind Blackwater Bikes in Davis, WV with the race start at 11 AM in the same location. The race course is approximately 36.5 miles long, and will have a food/aid station at the 16 mile and 25 mile distances. A vehicle to transport bottles and feed bags to the aid station will be provided at registration.
There will be two cut off points on the course. Racers who do not make it to the cutoffs by the predetermined times, or choose to wait until after the course is closed, will be directed onto a shorter route and will be included in the results as finishers behind the riders finishing the longer routes. Distances described here are approximate.
The first cutoff will be at the food/aid station at 16 miles at 2 PM, so riders missing this cutoff will only pass the food/aid station once and will be redirected onto the 27.5 mile version. The second cutoff will be at the 27/18 mile marker at 4 PM. Riders who made it past the first cutoff, but not the second will do 30 miles total, and riders who miss both cutoffs (highly unlikely barring a major breakdown) will do 22 miles total.
All racers should be finished by 5 PM. Everyone who finishes will be counted in the race results and series results with the longer distance riders being placed in front of the shorter ones regardless of finishing times.
The finish line will be in Davis, so the ride to the pizza and "beverages" will be short. There will be a party at the Tip Top cafe in Thomas starting at 8 PM to celebrate thirty years of racing, mountain biking, trail work and our wonderful Tucker County Trails, Inc. local volunteers and sponsors.
