Running and walking the 5K
Before arriving in Fairmont, West Virginia I was told to look for a man on a mission, the race director. As many race directors know, race day is the best day and the worst day wrapped in one large unopened package.

It's the day when all of your dreams, visions and hard work unfolds before your very eyes to reveal the wonderful event you've been planning for, or a day of unexpected surprises, or even worse, problems. Run to Read race director, Jim Woolfitt, knows this well and has a 7 year history of organizing one of MAGP's most unusual buffets of running and walking events. This 15K Run, 5K Run and Walk, Fun Run, 20K Combo deal does not come with a super size me option, but it does pack a quite few fancy prizes in the bag.

Stretching help is a plus
All proceeds of the days events went to benefit the Literacy Volunteers of Marion County, a United Way Agency. The organization provides free tutoring in reading, math and English as a second language, as well as computer literacy.

Jared Smith of Danville, West Virginia was the first place overall finisher of the 15K. The course report from Smith, "With each small uphill stretch and the heat combined, the course became more difficult." Smith finished with a time of 55:54 in the heat.
