This event crosses beautiful Sutton Dam, goes through a trail in the woods, and onto historic Main Street in Sutton.
Be sure to be early, the area will be blocked off to traffic beginning at 8:30 am!
- Entry fee is $15.00
- 8:00 am race day registration for 5K
- 9:00 am "That Dam Race" begins

Course
The course begins under the backdrop of the magnificent Sutton Dam at the Downstream Recreation Area. Participants then have a strenuous climb up the face of the dam and then across the top of the dam. Then the course takes them on a trip through the woods and back down to the Elk River. Then, to the brick paved streets of historic downtown Sutton past many beautiful, majestic buildings. The finish line is nearly in sight as participants head back up river with the dam in the distance. The race ends back at the Downstream Recreation Area where it began. Come and run/walk one of the toughest and most unique courses in the region!

Besides the 5K, enjoy the Mountain Lakes Festival.
In July 2011, the Mountain Lakes Festival and all of Braxton County will celebrate Sutton Lakes 50 years! There will be a 5K run/walk, pageants, an arts market, Anything That Floats but a Boat contest, Jazz Night, and all of your favorite Mountain Lakes fun, plus more.
This year, there are plans to add a ski show, more talent, tours of the Sutton Dam, large fire works display and more. To be able to add these and other events, your help is needed. Directions
Shelters 1, 2 and 3 are located at the Sutton Dam. From, I-79, take Exit 62 Sutton/Gassaway. Turn left on SR 4, approximately 2 miles into Sutton. Turn right at the Stop sign, cross the Elk River, and Turn Left to the Dam.
About the Dam Use Area
Swimming beaches are located at the South Abutment and Bee Run Day Use Areas. No lifeguards are provided, so swim at your own risk. There's plenty of hiking and fishing, picnic sites, even camping.
