The Kanawha Trace is a 31.68-mile foot trail running from Barboursville, WV, at the confluence of Mud and Guyandotte Rivers, to Frazier's Bottom, WV on the Kanawha River. With the exception of public roads, the trail is located in its entirety on private property. Without the cooperation of these land owners there would be no Kanawha Trace.
The Kanawha Trace starts at the ford crossing of the Mud River on the route of the old James and Kanawha River Turnpike. Today it is known as Merritts Creek Road near Barboursville. The Kanawha Trace runs through 3 counties in West Virginia (Cabell, Mason, Putnam county). The trail was built and is currently maintained by a local Boy Scout Troop 42 of the Tri-State Area Council. The trail was opened in 1962.
To Benefit
All proceeds of this event are going to benefit the Cabell Huntington Children's Hospital and the Boy Scouts of America. This is your opportunity to participate in something truly special - children helping children. The Boy Scouts will be heavily involved in preparing the trails and volunteering the day of the race. Several Scout leaders are already volunteering their time to participate in making this event a success. They are accompanied by the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners to help make this a truly epic event. Thank you for making a difference in a child's life.

Race transportation shuttles to the start of the 50K and 10K along with the finish and awards will take place at the Camp Arrowhead Scout Camp in Ona, WV.
Limitations . Restrictions
The time limit to successfully complete the entire course is 10 hours. There will be a cut-off point near the halfway mark. Further explanation and details will be provided during the pre-course instruction meeting on Friday July 15th at 7pm.
Packet Pick-Up
Packets will be available for pick-up between 5:30 and 9:00PM at the Pre-Race Pasta Dinner located at the Dining Hall at Boy Scout Camp.
Course Meeting . Pre-Race Meal
Meals are served on Friday, July 15 from 6:00-8:30 pm. Dinner is included for registered runners. Guest tickets are $5 (kids 5 and under free). Menu: Spaghetti w/Meat Sauce, Veggie Lasagna, Tossed Salad, Rolls & Butter, Cookies, Tea, Coffee, Soda. Pre-Pasta dinner will be at the Dinning Hall at Boy Scout Camp.
** IMPORTANT ** Course Instruction Meeting for all 50K participants will begin at 7 pm, Friday July 15 at the dinning hall.
Post-Race Meal
Saturday starts between 3:30 to 6:00. Dinner is included for 50K registered runners. Guest Tickets will be $13 dollars. Menu: BBQ Pulled Pork, Veggie Burgers, Slaw, Macaroni Salad, Dessert, Drinks. Awards ceremony and door prize drawings will begin around? pm at the Lake Front Amphitheater Theater.

Course Aid Stations
- 50K Aid Stations - There are 6 aid stations. Station 1 will only have water and sport drink. Stations 2 thru 6 will in a mix of ultra-run cuisine such as; pbj, fruit, cookies, pretzels, chips, potatoes, candy, salt, Coke, Mt Dew and more. See Course Maps for Aid Station locations.
- 10K Aid Stations - There are 2 aid stations at mile 2 and 5. Drop Bags will be collected at the Start and be available at Aid Station #4, mile 14.6 at Barkers Ridge. Label your bag with name and bib number.
Shuttle Buses . Race Start
- 50K Bus - The Start Shuttle buses will depart Boy Scout Camp for 50k racers at 6:00am for the 35 to 40 min trip to the start. The race starts at 7:30am. The start begins at near Frasier's Bottom on old Rt. 35 at mile 31.7 marker. All runners must check-in with the race director Saturday morning at the start. There will be no shuttle service back to the start after the race. If you have family or crew driving you to the start, please indicate so on the Entry Form.
- 10K Bus - The Start Shuttle busses will depart Boy Scout Camp for 10k racers at 8:45am for the 10 min trip to the start. The race starts at 9:30am. The start begins at 1st Sentry Bank near I-64 Merrits Creek Exit. All runners must check-in with the race director Saturday morning at the start. There will be no shuttle service back to the start after the race. If you have family or crew driving you to the start, please indicate so on the Entry Form.
- Spectators - Crew, family, and spectators are all welcome at the Start, but please park out of the way of runners and buses. This will be discussed Friday evening. The best place to meet your runner is Aid #4 or #5. Here runners have completed the tougher first half and support will be appreciated. Other locations are available, but are several miles from major highway. If you have any special needs please let me know. Direction to Start and Aid Station 4 &5.
Race Finish
The finish is back at Camp Arrowhead Boy Scout. Showers are available.
Awards
- 50K Awards - Finishing Awards go to the first 150 runners completing the 50K course in the 10 hour time limit will be guaranteed a finisher award. 50K Awards and Prizes Awards will be presented to the Top Five Overall Male and Female finishers, the 1st Place Masters 40-49, 1st Place Grand Masters 50-59, and 1st Place Super Masters 60 and over for both Male and Female. No duplicate awards.
- 10K Awards - 10K Awards and Prizes Awards will be presented to the Top Three Overall Male and Female, also Top Three Overall Male and Female in each age division.
