Join Morgantown Running for the inaugural ASICS Blue Jean Mile in Morgantown, West Virginia!
In May 2020, ASICS elite athlete Johnny Gregorek attempted to break the world record for the Blue Jean Mile, a pursuit that began as a tribute to his late brother, Patrick, who lost his battle with mental illness in 2019.
Paddy, as he was affectionately referred to by his family, enjoyed running for the fun of it. Johnny felt Paddy would have enjoyed watching him try to run the mile as fast as possible in a pair of blue jeans.
Wearing a pair of Levi's 501 jeans, Johnny accomplished his goal, becoming the fastest person to run a mile while wearing blue jeans with a time of 4:06.25. In 2020, Johnny's initial goal was to raise $2,500 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City, a non-profit organization that became a resource for him after his brother's passing. But the running community quickly rallied behind Johnny and he blew past his initial goal and ultimately raised over $32,000.
Each year, the Blue Jean Mile has continued to grow across the United States. Morgantown Running is proud to partner with ASICS and the West Virginia Track Club to bring this unique event to West Virginia.
While the entry is FREE, donations will be collected that will go towards a mental health organization.
The ASICS Blue Jean Mile will also "kick-off" the start of our annual Randee Mile.
